Radiation Safety Health Effects of Radiation is delivered as a scheduled, moderated webinar. Sessions run twice a day, at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Central, every day except Thursday. The scheduled block is 6.5 hours, and 5.4 hours of recorded attendance are required for credit. There is no post-test and no quiz — attendance is the requirement, and a moderator is in the room throughout for questions.
Learning objectives
After attending this activity, participants will be able to:
- 1Explain how ionising radiation interacts with tissue at the cellular and molecular level.
- 2Differentiate deterministic from stochastic effects and state the dose thresholds associated with each.
- 3Describe the acute radiation syndromes and the whole-body doses at which each becomes apparent.
- 4Summarise the epidemiological evidence underpinning current cancer risk estimates for diagnostic imaging.
- 5Discuss the additional radiosensitivity of the embryo, fetus and paediatric patient, and the practices that account for it.
- 6Relate occupational and public dose limits to the health effects those limits are set to prevent.
