IR/Cath Lab: Behind the Scenes is delivered as a scheduled, moderated webinar. Sessions run twice a day, at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Central, every day except Thursday. The scheduled block is 4 hours, and 3.5 hours of recorded attendance are required for credit. There is no post-test and no quiz — attendance is the requirement, and a moderator is in the room throughout for questions.
Learning objectives
After attending this activity, participants will be able to:
- 1Describe the range of procedures performed in an interventional radiology suite and the imaging each depends on.
- 2Identify the catheters, wires, sheaths, stents and closure devices in routine use, and state the purpose of each.
- 3Explain the preparation, monitoring and recovery a patient receives around an interventional procedure.
- 4Apply radiation protection practice for the patient and for the team in a suite where the operator stands beside the beam.
- 5Recognise the contrast reactions, access-site complications and haemodynamic changes that require immediate escalation.
- 6Discuss the technologist's role in sterile field maintenance, equipment readiness and procedural documentation.
