DXA: Bone Densitometry Problem Scanning & Analysis is delivered as a scheduled, moderated webinar. Sessions run twice a day, at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Central, every day except Thursday. The scheduled block is 9 hours, and 7.8 hours of recorded attendance are required for credit. There is no post-test and no quiz — attendance is the requirement, and a moderator is in the room throughout for questions.
Learning objectives
After attending this activity, participants will be able to:
- 1Position the lumbar spine, proximal femur and forearm correctly, and identify the positioning errors that most often invalidate a result.
- 2Apply the standard rules for placing regions of interest and for labelling vertebral levels.
- 3Recognise degenerative change, vertebral fracture, scoliosis, hardware and artefact, and decide when a region must be excluded.
- 4Adapt the scan and the analysis for patients with hip replacement, amputation, severe obesity or an inability to hold the standard position.
- 5Compare serial studies correctly, including the effect of a change of scanner, software version or region of interest.
- 6Interpret T-scores and Z-scores against WHO criteria and explain why the reference database chosen changes the result.
