About this webinar

CT Basics 101 is delivered as a scheduled, moderated webinar. Sessions run twice a day, at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Central, every day except Thursday. The scheduled block is 4 hours, and 3.5 hours of recorded attendance are required for credit. There is no post-test and no quiz — attendance is the requirement, and a moderator is in the room throughout for questions.

Learning objectives

After attending this activity, participants will be able to:

  • 1Describe the components of a modern CT scanner and how the data acquired becomes a reconstructed image.
  • 2Define the scan parameters — kVp, mAs, pitch, rotation time, collimation and slice thickness — and state the effect of each on image quality and dose.
  • 3Explain window width and window level and select appropriate settings for the tissue being reviewed.
  • 4Identify the common CT artefacts, name their causes, and describe how each is reduced.
  • 5Relate CTDIvol, dose-length product and effective dose to one another, and apply ALARA to protocol selection.
  • 6Summarise contrast media use in CT, including patient screening, injection technique and the recognition of a reaction.
