Bone Densitometry Equipment Application & QA is delivered as a scheduled, moderated webinar. Sessions run twice a day, at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Central, every day except Thursday. The scheduled block is 9 hours, and 7.9 hours of recorded attendance are required for credit. There is no post-test and no quiz — attendance is the requirement, and a moderator is in the room throughout for questions.
Learning objectives
After attending this activity, participants will be able to:
- 1Describe the physical principles of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and how bone mineral density is derived from the attenuation data.
- 2Identify the components of a DXA system and the function of each in acquiring a diagnostic scan.
- 3Perform and interpret the daily, weekly and periodic quality control required to keep a densitometer in calibration.
- 4Recognise phantom drift, shift and out-of-control conditions on a QC plot, and describe the corrective action each calls for.
- 5Explain how precision assessment and the least significant change are calculated and why they govern serial comparison.
- 6Summarise the accreditation, record-keeping and technologist qualification requirements that apply to a densitometry service.
