Basic Radiation Safety Health Effects of Radiation is delivered as a scheduled, moderated webinar. Sessions run twice a day, at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Central, every day except Thursday. The scheduled block is 6 hours, and 5.4 hours of recorded attendance are required for credit. There is no post-test and no quiz — attendance is the requirement, and a moderator is in the room throughout for questions.
Learning objectives
After attending this activity, participants will be able to:
- 1Explain how ionising radiation interacts with tissue at the cellular and molecular level.
- 2Differentiate deterministic from stochastic effects and state the dose thresholds associated with each.
- 3Summarise the evidence behind current risk estimates, including the linear no-threshold model and its limitations.
- 4Describe the relative radiosensitivity of tissues and the additional considerations that apply to paediatric and pregnant patients.
- 5Relate occupational and public dose limits to the health effects those limits are set to prevent.
